Robin was born in Brecon South Wales and brought up by the Sea in
Bexhill-on-Sea, Sussex. Now retired, he lives in Cranleigh Surrey,
but still has a special affection for the South Coast, and many of
his paintings reflect the fishing industry of Hastings and its
traditional boats.
Robin paints in oils and watercolours in an impressionistic style,
seeking to capture light effects in bold and innovative ways. He
also undertakes marine landscapes, portraits and, following his
previous engineering background, is happy painting the steam trains
of yesteryear.
Two major projects during the summer of 2009 resulted in completion
of a picture of HMS Monmouth which now resides in the ships ward
room. The second was a special tribute to Major Sean Birchall,
killed in action in Afghanistan. This picture was donated to the
Major’s family. Time spent in Kuwait during his working life, helped
Robin with this painting and advice on military detail was provided
by Major Di Bevan of the Welsh Guards.
In addition to painting in retirement, Robin has followed his
Grandfather Isaac into the Blacksmith Shop and creates decorative
and architectural items in iron. He is currently Blacksmith in
Residence at the Weald and Downland museum in West Sussex.
Robin Exhibits regularly in London, Sussex and Surrey and in 2009
also exhibited in France at Semur-en-Auxois, Burgundy. |
