Brian came from an East Anglian family and qualified as a Chartered
Architect in 1960. He was a founder member of a large and
successful integrated design practice established in 1967. He
retired from full time practice in 1996 and took up painting
appearing in the Channel 4 Watercolour Challenge programme in 2000.
After this he participated in many home and overseas painting
courses to gain experience and confidence.
He established the Maritime Art Group in 2005. This was formed by a
group of Friends of the RSMA. Initially he led the group but took a
year out in 2010 to undergo hip surgery. He was re elected chair and
leader in January 2011 . He remains an active supporter of the
group’s activities. In addition to his passionate interest in
capturing the beauty of nature, Brian enjoys seascapes architectural
subjects harbours boats and mud ! He paints in watercolour
acrylics pen and wash and uses pastels for portraiture and “soft”
subjects. He is a keen colourist covering subjects ranging from
boats hauled up on the foreshore to dramatic sky scapes. His
particular interest in skies has led by invitation to Associate
Fellowship of the Royal Meteorological Society following studies
submitted and published covering a series of paintings of unusual
cloudscapes.
In addition to exhibiting with the Maritime Art Group Brian has
exhibited and sold work at the Mall Gallery and galleries in the
Midlands and East Anglia. He also is keen to support charities and
has supported the group’s involvement with Charities including the
RNLI. He has also supported through personal picture sales Help for
Heroes local hospices and repairs to local churches. |
